NAIDOC Week 2025
In Week 1, St. Michael’s Primary School celebrated NAIDOC Week with lots of cultural activities. It was an opportunity for students and teachers to come together and celebrate the rich history, diverse cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the oldest continuing cultures on this planet. The NAIDOC 2025 theme, "The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy," celebrates not only the achievements of the past but the bright future ahead, empowered by the strength of our young leaders, the vision of our communities, and the legacy of our ancestors.
All classes engaged in exciting and thought-provoking learning which celebrated the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. Art lessons with Mrs McKeough in our first week explored an Aboriginal theme. Teachers reported wonderful engagement with the “The Next Generation” theme and were deeply affected by the conversations they had with their students.
On Friday 25th July was the Canberra NAIDOC mass at St. Christopher’s Cathedral, Manuka. We again congratulate Zanna B from Year 6 who received the 2025 NAIDOC Art Award. She is a creative and passionate young artist, and I wish her continued success in the future. We also thank Mrs Egan, Mrs McCann and our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who represented St Michael’s at this event.
